3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Itinerary
We will depart early from Marrakech and drive through the stunning High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m). Stop at the famous Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and traditional ksar featured in many films. Continue to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Sahara,” with an optional visit to the Atlas Film Studios. Then drive to the scenic Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and beautiful landscapes. Overnight stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we will head to Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon with towering cliffs. Then continue through palm groves to the town of Erfoud, famous for fossil discoveries. Arrive at Merzouga, on the edge of the vast Erg Chebbi dunes. In the afternoon, enjoy a camel trek into the desert to watch the sunset over the dunes. Spend the night in a traditional Berber desert camp under the stars, with dinner around the campfire.
We will wake up early to watch the sunrise over the desert dunes. Then return by camel to Merzouga village for breakfast. Afterward, we start the return journey, stopping in Rissani, the historic town, and Alnif. We will pass through Ouarzazate and continue over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Arrive in Marrakech by late evening, marking the end of the tour.
