3-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Merzouga Itinerary
We will leave Fes early in the morning and drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco,” and visit the cedar forest near Azrou where you can see Barbary apes. Continue to Midelt for lunch, then drive through the scenic Ziz Valley with its palm groves and fortified villages. Arrive in Merzouga by evening, where you’ll ride camels through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and watch the sunset. Overnight in a desert camp with dinner and stargazing.
Wake up early for a beautiful desert sunrise. Return by camel or 4×4 to the village. Explore the Merzouga region: visit Khamlia village, discover nomadic families and traditional Berber life, explore the Hassi Labied oasis and nearby fossil areas. Optional activities include sandboarding or quad biking. Return to your desert camp or hotel for a relaxing evening.
After breakfast, we will drive back to Fes. We’ll stop in Rissani, an ancient market town known for its traditional souks (especially vibrant on market days). The journey continues through the scenic Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains, with a lunch stop in Midelt or Zaida. We expect to arrive in Fes by early evening.
